In early 2023 I was diagnosed with a bicuspid aortic valve with aortic stenosis and regurgitation, which caused a severe heart insufficiency. I had been otherwise healthy and had barely any symptoms except for an audible heart murmur, so it came as a shock. However, that began a long journey to improve my health and figure out my options. I was first told I'd need to replace my aortic valve with a mechanical valve and take anti-coagulants for the rest of my life. I then learned about the Ross procedure, an operation that uses your own pulmonary valve and uses a donor valve to replace it. I had a successful surgery at @UHNToronto on Nov 8th, 2023. This is my personal story where I tell how I navigated and what I have learned throughout this journey, hoping that it can be a source of inspiration for other people going through something similar, whether you're facing a health challenge like this, or a different type of challenge altogether, my intention is the spiritual lessons in this video can be helpful. THE TOKYOITES OF TODAY Tokyo People & Their Way of Life Ep. 3 The People Behind Sanja Matsuri: Dedication & Community Bonds In 2012, British photographer Michael Feather, known for his visceral portraits undertook a three-year-long project taking photos of the members of the Senwa neighborhood association as they celebrated Sanja Matsuri in Asakusa, Tokyo - a festival held every year over the third weekend in May and one of the most popular in all Japan. This year we joined the nearly two million visitors coming to witness the processions of Mikoshi, or portable shrines, and get to know the Nishi Asakusa San Kita neighborhood association, who opened us their doors and let us document the extensive festival preparations while witnessing the strength of their communal spirit that keeps the festival thriving generation after generation.
